Cruising into Spring Break!

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

Just a little catch up post to let you know what I have been up too. My latest fun has been trying out Dingsplatz! These came out on a kitchen table tangle on the Zentangle Mosaic app awhile back, but I just had not had time to try them out. Here are two that I have done. Both on Renaissance tiles. I don’t work on these tiles often so it was kind of fun.

I also had a Apprentice tile hanging around one afternoon, and this was the result. A little “Toodle”ing around Ratoon! I used a blue Gelly Roll Stardust pen for the tangling and prismacolor pencils for the color.

Also a tile using Diva Dance, Flux and Tamisolo which was a new tangle for me.

Lastly the tile that I made for St. Patrick’s day to wish everyone,
A Little Luck of the Irish!

I had fun embedding a lucky four leaf clover.

Weekly Challenge #387

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!
I had a bit of a break from tangling while I took a short ski trip with some friends last week. We all had a great time exploring the slopes and the area.

Go Narrows Ski Team!

This week’s diva challenge is a use my tangle from Holly Atwater. I was introduced to her tangle HaWy for the first time. I found that it was a high focus tangle and while that usually doesn’t bother me, this time around I totally lost my focus. Managed to get about half of it “correct” but the rest of it just decided to meander off on it’s own.  I added some coffering, some color, shading, highlights, and there you have it, my tile for this challenge. It reminds me of some sort of crazy tinker toy set.

Weekly Challenge #385

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!

I have been busy doing all sorts of hearty things. Here are a few for the Valentange, diva challenge. In in the first one I used Ratoon with a twist. Instead of using rice shaped seeds I replaced them with hearts. I had to work a bit larger with this one, so the circle is about 6 ½ inches in diameter, done on Bristol board with watercolor, pen and graphite.

Then I had a little fun with a Zendala and some Bijou tiles. The love you is going to end up becoming a card before the day is over.

My students also got into the act this week and we also made some hearts. The first two are from my 6th grade kiddos and since it was their first time tangling and their first tile, we used the basics of Crescent moon, Tortuca, Hollibaugh, and Knightsbridge.

This batch is from my exploring art 7/8 class. These kiddos used Bales, Yincut, Bunzo and Marasu. I was very pleased with all of their work and the kids really liked making these. I even had some that stayed after school to make a few more or requested extra tiles to take home.

Lastly, Here is my tile for challenge #384, a UMT, Anthem by Jody Genvese, CZT. It reminds me of ice crystals and with all the cold and snow here it seemed to fit right in.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Weekly Challenge #383 and IAST #278

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

We have been in the deep freeze here in Minnesota. Got to love the polar vortex! I am finally back to school after having three days off for the extreme cold. It did give me a chance to finish a couple of tangles for this week’s diva challenge and IAST #278 challenge to use the tangle Ratoon.

I have been enjoying using Ratoon and have some other examples of this tangle on my blog here, if you would like to see some of my other versions.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Weekly Challenge #382

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

Last day of the quarter so this one is going to be short and sweet. Here is my tile for the diva's challenge of Stripes o plenty.

A little Tropicana, Knightsbridge, Well, Sistar, and Tipple in my stripes.

This is one of my tiles based off the work of artist Gustav Klimt, that I did at zenAgain in November that would also go with the idea of stripes!

Weekly Challenge #381

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

I can’t believe that we are already half way thru January. The new year has been flying by so far. I am at the end of the quarter at school and I am neck deep in getting all the grading done and posted, so I am crazy busy. I did take some time to do the diva challenge, "A Happy (new) Medium" and I had one turn out, and an epic failure that I think I managed to save.

The first I used a new micron that is in a forest green color on a renaissance tile. I used a scumbling technique in the background with the two colors of watercolor pencils.

The second I used my newer watercolor pencils but tried something to shade around it that was a total bomb. I “fixed” it by painting Payne’s Gray acrylic around the tangle. Another "new" medium. I also found out that the white Gelly roll pen works quite nicely over the acrylic paint, so that’s a plus for future projects.

Also wanted to share my first Ratoon tile done at zenAgain.

I worked with my enrichment class this week and introduced those students who wanted to learn it, Ratoon. Here is the mosaic of those students that chose to try it out. I was pretty jazzed about their tiles!

Weekly Challenge #380

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!
Happy New Year to everyone!

I have started the new year out with a blasted cold and cough… came down with it as soon as the holidays were over and it’s still hanging on. Guess that’s what I get for burning the candle at both ends trying to get ready this season. Still not over it, but at least feeling better. I did get some tangling done, but it’s all at home and I am not there to be able to post it, so another time.

The Diva’s Challenge turned 8 during the holidays and I am so happy for her, and the challenge! I have enjoyed spending time with this challenge and can’t wait to continue! This week it was to use circles as a string. I have seen the spinner art and Zen buttons that people have done before and so far, I have resisted buying the spinner toy to make them. I continued to do so this week but did use some color. I just free hand painted the circles in with some watercolors. I also used my new Reticula and Fragments book that I picked up at ZenAgain. The fragments used from the outer ring inward were, RE1-FL4, by CZT Amy Herman, RF2-FD13 by CZT Inge Frasch, RD1-FM1 by CZT Deb Turnipseed, and RL2-FH25 by CZT Laurie Patterson. I haven’t done much work with reticula and fragments so it was a fun way to get started.

Weekly Challenge #379 and More

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

It’s Happy “Holidaze” over at the diva this week. Here is my contribution to the challenge.

I am planning on hanging this wee garland on a mirror that is right inside my door as a little reminder of the season. I also decided to make some more to use as the gift tags for my family, and a few special friends. The letters have been fun to work on.

My spinner for the 12 Days of Zentangle continues to fill. This has been a super fun project. I have enjoyed seeing the video each day and seeing the different ways that the tangles have been drawn. It has also forced me to use some tangles that I seldom have used and that has been a nice thing too.

Here’s wishing you all,
Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!

Weekly Challenge #378 and More

Greetings Fellow Tanglers!

The diva challenge this week is a UMT 123 O’Leary by Antonine. I enjoyed using this tangle and decided to make it do a bit of double duty. I needed something this year for package to and from tags and this is going to be it, once I photograph it and the print some that is. Then I am going add to it and turn it into a card for a friend. (Ok, Triple duty, challenge, tag, and card, not bad!)

I am also taking part in the 12 Days of Zentangle and here is the start of my Spinner before tangling.

By the time Day 3 hit it looks like this. I figured if some color was good, more was better and I also added some gold to accent some of the thin bands that it has on it. I am really enjoying working on this. It’s about the right amount of work to get done and have fun doing it, without feeling overwhelmed during this busy season.

Here is another tile that I finished for IAST #271. I really enjoyed using Jody's tangle XLNT. I only had my little pack of tools that we received at zenAgain with me that day and I enjoyed the simplicity of both the tangle and the elegance of limits as I had only a few tools to work with removing all the choice. It was relaxing to have the tools chosen for me, not making the decision, but having only 2 colors, the pen, pencil and white charcoal pencil to work with.

Lastly one of the tiles, zenAgain2018tile12 that came home with me unfinished that I finally got done.

The Diva’s challenge this week is a Duotangle using Fengle and Pokeroot. I had some fun with a Renaissance tile and some of the tools I received at zenAgain. I had fun adding some color and highlights using Generals pastel pencils.
