It's a String Thing #43 and Diva Challenge #170

It’s been a wacky week for me. It’s the last full week of school, so all the final projects for the year are coming in. I have been grading non-stop, so I can get them back to the kiddos next week during our last three days. Woo Hoo! I can see the end in sight. I had a few minutes and needed a break, so I went to get out a tile and pen out of my book bag, tiles, no problem, a pen, that was a different story. Where were my pens? I always have my pens. Not this day. The only pen I could find was a blue micron, so this week’s It’s a String Thing is in blue.  Check out Adele’s challenge here.

I started the diva challenge on Monday, lost the tile for awhile, found it today mixed in with a stack of work that I was grading, and decided I had to get the UMT, use my tangle challenge finished up. Not my best tile. I just couldn’t get it to do what I wanted it to do this week.

On a brighter note, here are some of my sixth graders large Zentangle tiles. I had them on a large display in the front foyer case in the school for the past couple of weeks. These tiles are 9” x 9”. I could only get far enough away to show you about half of the board while taking this photo inside the case. I was so proud of them, I think they Rocked It!

Here is a close up of one of the tiles.

Last is just a tile that I did for fun last weekend.

My thanks to all of you for the lovely comments and checking out my pattern Tropicana over at tanglepatterns.com. I didn’t know that it was going to be featured this week, so it was a very pleasant surprise.

Everyone have a great weekend and tangle on!

  1. You have been busy even with "the end in sight". Your shading on the Bugles is really nice. I am impressed with your student's work. I miss teaching when I see work like that. They are lucky to have you!

    1. Thanks Jean. I was so very proud of the work they did. They all were wildly successful with their tiles, and I was so pleased. My work has been more of the stress reliever lately. ;)

  2. First and foremost, looking at your students work - Chapeau à lui !
As a teacher myself, I wholeheartedly relate to this amazing feeling you get when you see your goslings fly. And there is no question that your goslings flew

There was also another thing that you wrote that caught my eye. When you described your tile for the #170 challenge "...Not my best tile. I just couldn’t get it to do what I wanted it to do this week..." . One of the best things in the Diva's challenge is that one can share a drawing regardless of it's "quality". As a beginner myself, this allows me to publish my drawings as I learn, and I feel it greatly enhance my drawing confidence.

Your tile is nicely done, and the bugles are beautifully drawn.
Thank you for sharing your feeling about it.

  3. Wow, I love your Bugle tile. That intense black with the shading around it is exciting! I am in awe of your students' work, too. And I love the blue micron pen on your string tile, too. Well, these comments are boring, aren't they? I just love everything I see here.
