Weekly Challenge #169 and It's a String Thing #42

Happy Saturday Everyone!
Hope that you are all enjoying your weekend. This week the challenge from i am the diva was to use circles for your string and then tangle them. I was working with the 7th graders this week in watercolor and using glazes, so I used circles to show them how thin veils of color can change when put over another. After I was done with the circles, I tangled them and threw in a few Dew Drops too. Here is my piece for the challenge this week. I used watercolor, mixed colored pens and colored pencil. It is also a larger piece, 8 1/2 X 11.

I also have started to play in Adele Bruno’s, It’s a String Thing. This week we were to use Knightsbrige, so here is that tile too.

My many thanks to those who visit and also for your very kind comments!
Have a great rest of the weekend!

It's a Sting Thing #41

I started out my day today with 16, 6th, 7th , and 8th graders working on the courtyard gardens in our school. We had a great time together on our service day, weeding out the gardens, replacing a couple of trees, moving another to a new spot and planting some annuals to fill in the empty spaces around the perennials in the butterfly garden, that we started a number of years ago. However, now I’m ready for a nap!

This weeks It’s a Sting Thing, started with Margaret Bremner’s string 026.
In honor of the r’s in her name we were to use these tangles.
River by Suzanne McNeill, CZT
River Stones by Lori Howe
Rixty, an official Zentangle® pattern
and to add a grid based pattern to the mix,  Ripples by Helen Williams

I decided to use one of the round tiles for this challenge. I first washed it in some watercolor, and then tangled using two different blue microns, and finished with a little shading in color pencil. Enjoy.

I appreciate all your wonderful comments, so thanks!
Everyone have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Weekly Challenge #168

I really enjoyed using rain in my tile for this weeks challenge from i am the diva. We had torrential rains on Monday, but now we have finally been enjoying some sunshine and warm weather! School has been super busy with lots of major projects coming in for me to grade, so I hope that I can find a bit more time to play with rain yet this week. I feel like I have just scratched the surface.

I also managed to get this ATC done for a trade.

Have a Happy Hump Day!
See you all later.

"It's a String Thing" #40

I was looking for something different to do last night and wandered over to It’s a String Thing, CZT Adele Bruno’s blog. It seemed like a good time to try it out. The string this week is from Beth Snoderly and in honor of her name the tangles we were to use to work it all started with Be. You can find all of them on TanglePatterns.com
Beadlines
Beeline
Belite and
Betweed
Here are a couple of tiles that I tried with them.
The first uses just Betweed.

For the second I used them all, on one of the Renaissance tiles.

Your comments do make my day! Thank you!

Have a great weekend everyone! Tangle on!

Weekly Challenge #167

Greeting everyone! I wonder if Laura over at i am the diva, heard the big groan that I gave out when I read this weeks DouTangle challenge. I love Well, but Punzel and I have one of those love, hate relationships. I love the way it looks, but I can’t ever get mine to be as even as I would like.  I even had some of the other CZT’s at Tangle U, show me how they did theirs, and got it so nice and even. Their tricks still haven’t worked for me, so I am going to follow Maria’s advice from her latest blog post, and embrace the imperfections! Here is my piece for the challenge this week.

My thanks to all of you who leave such lovely comments, I so appreciate them!
Have a Terrific Tuesday and Keep Tangling!

More on the Weekly Challenge #166

I just couldn’t stop playing around with this weeks challenge. I really wanted to try another of the new techniques that I learned at Tangle U. Molly brought us a “gift” as she called it, from Maria and Rick.  She showed us how to work on the black tiles using a “wash” of Zenstone on top first.  You can see Maria using it in her work here. The first one is from my time at Tangle U and uses a black micron on top of the ghosting of Zenstone. Of course I couldn’t leave well enough alone…. I had to many of those, what ifs, running around in my head.  My what would happen, for this one was, to add some colored pencil to it also. I used the Irojiten colored pencils from Tombow for the colored parts.

Here was my next experiment using this technique, and the, i am the diva challenge for this week. I ghosted the tile first and this time used a Sakura glaze pen, which gives a very shiny black line. I also used a silver Uniball pen, and both gold and bronze colored Slicci pens for accents. The shading added here and there was done with Caran d’Ache supracolor II soft colored pencils. I love how this one turned out. It reminds me of a bunch of pulley systems.

Thank you all for your lovely comments!
Here is to a great rest of the week, Happy Hump Day!

Weekly Challenge #166

Happy Monday everyone. I was able to start my week off right with a new tangle, provided to us by i am the diva. Laura doesn’t have a name for it yet, but has one idea. I think that she should name it in honor of her birthday. Anyway here is my rendition of it….

A shout out to all of you who comment.
My thanks to you all!

Have a great week and keep tangling!
